Established by Dr. Bill Weedon, Fast Forward Flight Academy offers concierge-level advanced flight instruction based at Quonset State Airport (OQU) in North Kingstown, RI. We specialize in multi-engine aircraft training, taildragger and upset recovery, and instrument training. Stay tuned for more information coming as we update our new website.

Fast Forward Flight Academy
Concierge-Level Advanced Flight Instruction

Multi-Engine Training
Learn to fly multi-engine aircraft including twin-Cessna (C421B/C, C414/A, C310), Beech Baron (BE-55, BE-58), Piper Seneca with confidence. Initial ME rating and annual simulator training teaches you how to fly specific scenarios. Learn how to fly these machines cross-country in an instrument environment including the flight levels (Class A, B, C, D, E airspace) with confidence.

Advanced Instrument Training
A lot of instrument flying involves decision making when dealing with IFR cloud ceilings, areas of convective activity and potential icing conditions. Learn how to make informed go/no-go decisions based on pilot experience and aircraft equipment for various scenarios, and how to deal with unknown and unexpected instrument situations. Work with ATC on IFR flight plans and use ATC effectively in all phases of flight. Learn how to hand-fly the aircraft with confidence including straight-and-level primary instrument flying, including instrument scans, climbs, descents, various IFR approaches and IFR takeoffs. Training will consider primary/supporting instruments vs control/performance method of basic instrument flying. Also learn to used old-school analog autopilots and newer digital autopilots including Garmin GFC500/600, and how to select the appropriate level of automation based on the situation. Learn instinctively how to enter holds, intercept courses including ILS, and how to read back approach clearances.

Unusual Attitude Upset Recovery
Unusual attitude upset recovery is taught in a 1978 Super Decathalon 8KCAB owned by Quonset Aviation (parent company of Fast Forward Flight Academy). This training serves as an inroduction to aerobatic flight as well as taildragger / tailwheel (a/k/a “conventional gear”) aircraft training. This training right off the bat will allow the student to develop a better “feel” of the aircraft in terms of “stick-and-rudder” flying. This includes use of the rudders to compensate for adverse yaw in various modes of flight. Training will include advanced stalls, spins and unusual attitude. Whether the student continues on for additional aerobatic training including competition aerobatics or moves toward more stable airframes, this course of study will help prepare the student for “unusual attitude” flying and recovery, whether intentional or not.

Advanced Multi-Engine Training
Learn to fly with confidence on IFR instrument flight plans, including flying into class-B airports (such as Washington Dulles IAD depicted here) and Class-C and -D towered airports. Fly confidently in the flight levels and in the weather in high-traffic environments.
Introduction to Aerobatics and Upset Recovery
Increase your “stick and rudder” flying skills with taildragger training in a 1978 Super Decathalon 8KCAB. Learn how to deal with adverse yaw, keep the ball centered, and confidently deal with unusual attitudes. Taildragger flying opens up a whole new set of flying skills, including wheel landings and 3-point landings, properly dealing with cross-winds. Learn to fly this type of plane all the way to the hangar.

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) Training
Bring your flying to the next level by becoming a Certified Flight Instrucor (CFI). These ratings include single-engine CFI, multi-engine (MEI) and Instrument (CFII). Each of these ratings requires a level of effort similar to getting an initial PPL, ME and Instrument rating, respectively.
